Catechist
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God,” (Colossians 3:16)
About the Ministry
A catechist is a person of faith who is called by the parish or school community to hand-on the tradition and teachings of the Catholic Church to others. The process of catechesis means to “echo” the word of God. Opportunities for volunteer
catechists include Early Childhood faith formation (ages 3 to 5 years), Elementary catechesis (1st through 5th Grades), Youth Ministry and Confirmation (6th to 8th Grades and High School-aged teens), and Adult faith formation (ages 21 and
older). Volunteer catechists who minister to children (ages 3 to 18) are required to be fingerprinted and participate in a special training program, VIRTUS® Child Abuse Prevention, that is offered through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Safeguard the Children program.
