Penance & Reconciliation
Confession, also known as the Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation, it celebrates forgiveness and the repairing of broken relationships. It is a sacrament of healing that reconciles us with God, with the Church, and with others. Through the Sacrament of Penance, God offers mercy and forgiveness. In response to this gift, we are called to become vehicles of Christ’s love, making amends and restoring justice and the bonds that have been broken. Healed and forgiven, we are sent to work for peace, justice, and love in our communities and world. Unlike baptism—which happens only once—Penance and Reconciliation can be celebrated as often as needed—and are for the forgiveness of sins after baptism.
Individual reconciliation is offered every Saturday from 3:45 - 4:45pm and on the first Friday of every month prior to the 8:00am Mass. Communal celebrations, or penance services, are scheduled during Advent and Lent.
For children, sacramental preparation for First Penance occurs within the curriculum for Religious Education. For information, contact the Director of Religious Education, Guadalupe Benitez at 562-439-1802.
